MOTHER'S LOVE - The Jewel in the Lotus

(0 votes)

The diversity of life on earth defies imagination. Some of us have skin, some fur, some scales, some feathers, and some have leaves. We walk, we crawl, we fly, we swim, or we remain rooted in the earth. We are tiny and we are huge – we live on the land, in the skies or the oceans.

We are all very different, and these differences are the very fabric of the fabulous variety that constitutes life. So multitudinous, so complex, so subtle, so many are these differences that it seems very clear that we have absolutely nothing in common with our fellow life forms that creep, crawl, are born,

live and die all over the earth.

But we do.

Apart from the obvious, there’s a common factor to every single living creature on the face of the planet.

We all have a Mum. And what a thing to celebrate!!!

It’s Mother's Day soon, the day where we get to publicly and privately celebrate that amazing woman – our Mother. It’s our time to acknowledge one of our greatest gifts in life, MUM. On this day we, those that love her can fuss over her, spoil and pamper her with her full permission. This is the day where her incredible feats of endurance, her love and wisdom are joyously acknowledged.

Whether you have a funky mum, a house proud mum, a pamper mum, a modest mum or a semi-retired grandmothering mum, finding her that special something, that gift that says Thanks is a satisfying task.

As we get older and are able to use our life experience to reflect on our Mother we are often unreserved in our appreciation. We begin to understand how powerfully our journey through life is influenced by our Mother. She provided us with intimacy, involvement, attachment and a sense of relatedness to the rest of the world. She taught us how to do - if not directly then through observation. She influenced the way that we think, the way that we move, our gestures and the way we engage with the world. In fact George Washington went so far as to say “My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her”.

The role of woman up until recently has been based in the home but throughout milenia the mystical, mythical and religious portrayal of woman has venerated her qualities and set them to play on a global and universal scale, describing more the importance of the value or characteristic of woman and how it fits into our world.

Buddha saw in a Mothers Love qualities which he revered. When speaking of love he said, ""As a mother, even at the risk of her own life, loves and protects her child, so let a man cultivate love without measure toward the whole world."" This type of love is the one that creates harmony and peace within the world. It is a strong love, forgiving and sustainable not based on the give and take of normal relationships. A mother’s innate love leads the way and presents a shining example to us all. In my mind and heart it is "The jewel in the lotus".

So let's continue to watch, listen and learn and love back at every given opportunity.

Thanks Mum....
